A day later, Cornelia tells what happened to her. “Someone rang the doorbell and then a woman was at the door. She said she was from the police. She was alone and not wearing a uniform.”

The fake cop supposedly came to secure her valuables. “She was looking for money, so I took a box from the bedroom. It contained a bundle of fifty notes and a gold bracelet. I gave that to her. They are villains.”

Money withdrawn

Her debit card was also taken by the fake police officer. “She went to the ATM and withdrew even more,” Cornelia says sadly.

Ultimately, the bank blocks her only after she contacts the real police. Before then, they steal a significant amount from the account.

‘That’s wrong’

After the scammer left with the items, Cornelia waited for the agent to return. “But after waiting a few hours I thought: ‘this is wrong’. Then I went to the neighbor and we called 112.”

Last week, several West Frisian municipalities warned that fake agents are active in the region.

Cornelia has filed a report and the police are investigating. For now, the police are not responding to this specific case, but do provide tips to protect yourself against fake officers.
