Coordinator expects the number of refugees in Berlin to increase again

According to the accommodation coordinator, Albrecht Broemme, the number of Ukrainian war refugees arriving in Berlin every day could rise again.

“We’ve had up to 10,000 a day. We will deal with that, ”said Broemme on Monday on RBB Inforadio. “But we also have to reckon with dealing with 20,000 refugees a day.”

According to Broemme, a third fewer Ukrainians are arriving in Berlin every day than just a few days ago. On the one hand, there is a redistribution in Poland and other German cities. On the other hand, escape routes are difficult to pass due to shelling. “There’s a backlog.”

“So we have to expect a lot more again. We’re slowly getting ready for that,” said Broemme. He expressed his satisfaction with the new arrival center at the former Tegel Airport. “I’m really excited about everything that’s happened in such a short time.”

According to Broemme, there are considerations of housing refugees in the former Tempelhof airport and in the Schmidt-Knobelsdorf barracks in Spandau. He still has to look at these properties, said the former president of the Federal Agency for Technical Relief.
