The municipalities of Barneveld, Ermelo and Apeldoorn, the province of Gelderland and the Ministry of Defense will work more closely. Today they have signed a so -called ‘administrative intention’. With this they agree to look together at the space requirement of Defense and what that means for the region.

Because the Ministry of Defense is growing, more space is needed for buildings and good facilities. The Veluwe plays an important role in this. For years there have been many barracks and training grounds in the region. Defense is therefore closely linked to local society.

Defense wants to expand the barracks in Stroe and Ermelo. There will also be a new squadron from the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee (KMar) to the Kleiberg in Apeldoorn. At the moment there are more than 2,000 people working on the barracks in Stroe and 1,000 in Ermelo. This number can double in the coming years. With the arrival of the KMar-Eskadron, a new defense location will be added in Apeldoorn. This against the background of the previously announced redevelopment of camp Nieuw Milligen and a new central barracks in Zeewolde.

Implications

These developments have consequences. There will be more traffic, extra homes are needed and the demand for energy and other facilities is increasing. Defense, the municipalities and province will make further agreements about this.

State Secretary Gijs Tuinman: “Defense is part of the Veluwe society for a long time. Now that we are growing sharply in the coming years, we will do so in close collaboration with our local partners. Because our growth is not on its own. It has an impact on the environment, think of more traffic pressure. And our extra people have to live somewhere. They can only give up their growth with our growth. province and municipalities. “

Program Room for Defense

The National Room for Defense Program is based on the administrative intention. The government still has to definitively determine the Room for Defense program.
