Faith healer Tom de Wal starts his new church ‘Goed Nieuws Eindhoven’ this weekend. He previously wanted to hold the services at the Evoluon, but Next Nature, the museum located in the UFO-shaped building, put a stop to that. The faith healer is welcome at the Van der Valk hotel in Eindhoven.
Billboards spread throughout the center of Eindhoven announce that a new church is starting in Eindhoven. It is still unclear where the new church will hold its weekly services. But in any case, healing services are planned for next weekend at the Van der Valk Hotel Eindhoven.
While a Next Nature spokesperson stated that they do not support the healing and deliverance services that De Wal organises, the commercial manager of the Van der Valk Hotel says that they do not take any position on ‘the nature, beliefs or messages of individual events or organizations’.
Complies with house rules
“We do not screen organizers based on personal or religious views. We do check whether an event complies with our house rules, safety regulations and applicable laws and regulations,” says the hotel’s commercial manager.
“Van der Valk Hotel Eindhoven is a commercial events location that offers space for a wide range of meetings, such as conferences, trade fairs, business events and religious or social gatherings.”
From student to pastor
The leaders of the new church ‘Goed Nieuws Eindhoven’ are not De Wal himself, but students from his full-time bible school. Students are encouraged to start a church themselves.
The Goed Nieuws Eindhoven website states that they will hold a service every Sunday, but no location has yet been announced. The Van der Valk hotel Eindhoven states that there has not yet been any coordination regarding recurring or future meetings.
Both Tom de Wal on behalf of Frontrunners Ministries and Goed Nieuws Brabant did not respond to our questions.
Who is Tom de Wal?
Tom de Wal (31) was born in Oosterhout and founded Frontrunners Ministries with his wife Femke in 2016. With this religious organization he organizes healing and deliverance services throughout the country.
The meetings are controversial. During these services, people could be ‘cured’ from diseases such as MS, Parkinson’s and cancer and ‘liberated’ from ‘demons’ such as homosexuality and autism.
Frontrunners Ministries is a foundation with ANBI status. ANBI stands for public benefit institution, i.e. organizations that must aim for at least ninety percent public benefit. Examples include hospitals and environmental organizations.
All together, Frontrunners received more than 11 million euros in donations and gifts in 2023 and 2024, according to the organization’s annual accounts.
