The HSV has to look for a new president in the summer. The long -controversial club boss Marcell Jansen withdraws.
After six years, Marcell Jansen wants to stop as the boss of the mother club of the second division soccer team and do not run again for re-election at the general meeting in June. The ex-international announced this internally, as the “Bild” newspaper first reported.
Controversial for some time
At first there was no statement from the HSV. The 39-year-old has been president at the Hamburg Club since 2019, and at the time he was chosen as the successor to Bernd Hoffmann.
The former professional has been controversial for some time. He survived several election applications, most recently at the general assembly 2023. His relationship with the investor and shareholder Klaus-Michael Kühne is also considered broken. Now he apparently reacted to criticism from the advisory board and thus decided to decide whether he was admitted to a new re -election at all.
Will Papenfuß be a successor?
It is unclear who could succeed Jansen. The current Vice President Michael Papenfuß is considered a candidate. The 70-year-old had already taken over Jansen’s supervisory board mandate in HSV AG after he had left the control committee after long quarrels, which he had occurred at times.
