Controlled the Bejís fire after burning 20,000 hectares in two weeks

The fire declared last August 14 in Bejís (Castellón) has been considered controlled this Saturday, almost two weeks after starting and after having devastated about 20,000 hectares.

This has been announced by the president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Ximo Puigthrough social networks, where he has stated that it is a “very good news”.

According to 112, the fire, which started in an area of ​​difficult access in the Castellón region of Alto Palencia due to lightning and which reached a perimeter of 140 kilometers, has been considered controlled at 8:00 p.m. this Saturday.

The president thanked the more than 1,000 troops who have fought against the flames, and also to the mayors of the 26 affected towns and their neighbors. “We will never forget what we experienced. Now the recovery begins,” she said.

As reported by this newspaper, about 40% of the area burned (about 8,000 hectares) was already destroyed by the fire that devastated the region in 2012, so that part of the forest will take about 50 years to recover.

In addition, the forest fire in Vall d’Ebo (Alicante), which began two weeks ago caused by lightning, as reported by the Generalitat’s Emergency Coordination Center. The fire was considered controlled almost a week ago and at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday it was considered finished.

In the extinction of this fire in the interior of the province of Alicante, only terrestrial means were already working to monitor possible outbreaks of the flames, and according to data from the Copernicus community satellite program, it would have affected some 11,300 hectares.

The fire reached 100 kilometers of fire perimeter, and forced the eviction of some 1,500 people who have already been able to return to their homes.
