Contract ends in Bremen: sports director Baumann is leaving Werder in the summer of 2024

Frank Baumann has announced that he will not extend his contract beyond this season. Clemens Fritz could be the Bremen team’s successor.

Werder Bremen will have to make do without Frank Baumann from summer 2024. As the club announced on Wednesday afternoon, the incumbent sports director will not extend his expiring contract again. Baumann told Supervisory Board Chairman Hubertus Hess-Grunewald this in a personal conversation.

“The decision was not easy for me because Werder has been much more than an employer for me for many years,” says Baumann on “werder.de”. “But after eight years in management, I consider the decision to be the right and important one, both for me personally and for the club.”

Baumann: Change is also good for Werder

After eight years in office, Baumann has decided that he no longer wants to do the “challenging” and “exhausting” job. At the same time, in his opinion, a change in this position is also good for Werder, “to allow for new impulses and ideas.”

Hess-Grunewald explains that Baumann’s successor should be settled by the end of the first quarter of 2024. The association wants to examine external solutions for this. According to Hess-Grunewald, the current sporting director Clemens Fritz also plays a role in the considerations. He could possibly move up a position in the hierarchy.
