Defense boss hesitates with extension

In the contract poker with Nico Schlotterbeck, club advisor Matthias Sammer recommended an early decision to Borussia Dortmund. He knows that the club is “in need of harmony” and wants to give the defense chief time. “You can do that, but I wouldn’t. I would sometimes set deadlines,” said Sammer on the pay TV channel “Sky”.
“With Nico Schlotterbeck you have to develop a feeling for how far you are in the conversation. Accordingly, I might take a little more time,” the 58-year-old also explained, without giving an exact time period. Schlotterbeck still has a contract in Dortmund until June 30, 2027. BVB definitely wants to extend the contract with the national player, but so far there has been no agreement.
When asked about a possible deadline, Dortmund’s sports director Lars Ricken reacted negatively on Sunday. “Why should we set a deadline? Why should I put myself under pressure?” he said before the game at SC Freiburg (1:1) on “DAZN” and continued with regard to the 26-year-old: “He wants to choose the decision carefully. We know what he needs and he also knows what he has in this club.” According to “Bild”, an extension seems increasingly out of the question; the national player should gamble on the offer of a European heavyweight. Among other things, it should be an issue at FC Bayern or at FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and Liverpool FC are also being traded.
