Confident victory at BVB: FC Bayern statement in Dortmund upsets Tuchel

As of: November 4th, 2023 9:42 p.m

The top Bundesliga game once again turned into a real demonstration of power by FC Bayern. The 4-0 win in Dortmund was the record champions’ best game of the season so far, for whom Harry Kane scored three times. But there was more than one match winner.

When it mattered most, FC Bayern Munich was there again. And how. The 4-0 win at Borussia Dortmund was well deserved and belies all those who lie to the team after the cup exit on Wednesday at third division team 1. FC Saarbrücken wanted to talk their way into a crisis. Coach Thomas Tuchel therefore reacted extremely thinly to the questions on “Sky” and took refuge in irony in view of the recent comments from some TV experts: “Today we won 4-0. You now have to make a 180 degree turn.”

Tuchel: “It depends on the reaction – we showed that”

But why so resentful, Mr. Tuchel? After his team’s gala performance, the 50-year-old had every reason to be in a good mood and deal with the latest criticism with confidence. That’s what he hinted at: He was “super happy” with his team, “we were very concentrated and focused, very effective, created a lot of chances to score and deserved to win.”

The defeat in the DFB Cup, which “happens once in 50 games,” hurt and will continue to hurt with every cup draw. But, says Tuchel: “It depends on the reaction. We showed that.”

Terzic is amazed: “FC Bayern are superior in all areas”

Probably true. Right from the kick-off, the Munich team radiated complete conviction and immediately developed a power that BVB – even though they had been unbeaten in 17 competitive games and were clearly on the way to becoming more stable – simply could not match. While Dortmund inexplicably made life difficult for themselves with simple mistakes, Bayern were more present, quicker in thought, more aggressive. BVB coach Edin Terzic saw FCB as “superior in all areas”. “How they protected the ball, how alert and aggressive they were,” he marveled.

Tuchel, on the other hand, was not surprised. He just saw himself confirmed. He always believed in the quality of his players, and they have now paid back.

Triple goalscorer Harry Kane with a record record

There is Harry Kane, who scored his goals 13, 14 and 15 this season and now leads the top scorers list with more goals after ten match days than any player has ever achieved in 60 years of the Bundesliga. “He didn’t leave the experience, all the processes he went through in England. He shows that brilliantly week after week,” enthused captain Manuel Neuer.

And he was a rock in the surf himself. Although he wasn’t really given much to do, he was there when things were hot – for example with Marco Reus’ great chance, which he thwarted with great reflexes.

Upamecano surprised – Kobel was shocked

And then there were two players who were forced into the starting eleven because, firstly, they were still recovering and only due to the personnel emergency Had to help out in Bayern’s defense: Dayot Upamecano and Leon Goretzka. Upamecano even opened the scoring with his header to make it 1-0 and played safely at the back. Goretzka showed what always distinguished him in his best days: defensive stability and forward movement.

In the end there was no loss for Bayern. Everyone was irritated, Leon Goretzka admitted, and converted their cup frustration into positive energy and playful dominance. A visibly dismayed Gregor Kobel summed up the 90 minutes like this: “I had the feeling that Bayern were more aggressive, more dangerous. We simply have to counter that better as a team from the start.” His conclusion: “The better team won, clearly.”

Tuchel follows up: Greetings to the TV experts

There’s no better way to summarize the 90 minutes. Only Thomas Tuchel couldn’t be calmed down long after the game. In the press conference he once again smugly addressed the comments of certain experts: “For a team without further development and with a poor internal relationship between players and coach, it looked okay today.” This statement was also part of FC Bayern’s demonstration of power on that memorable evening in Dortmund.
