Tom Morello will honor Renee Good and Alex Pretti – two Minneapolis residents shot and killed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents – with the benefit event A Concert of Solidarity & Resistance to Defend Minnesota.
On Friday, January 30, Morello will perform at First Avenue in Minneapolis alongside Rise Against, Al Di Meola, Ike Reilly and a host of special guests.
The event includes two hours of music. All proceeds will benefit Good and Pretti’s families. Tickets are available now.
Morello: “Nobody is coming to save us”
“We come to Minneapolis, where the people have heroically stood up to ICE. Standing up to Trump. Standing up to this horrifically growing wave of state terror,” Morello said in a statement. “Where people stood up for their neighbors and for themselves. For democracy and justice. No one is coming to save us. Except ourselves. And it’s now or never.”
The streets of Minneapolis were flooded with protesters following ICE violence. Musicians responded online and in the studio. Artists like Billie Eilish have called on their wide-reaching peers to raise their voices, while Bruce Springsteen and others are among those recording protest songs in real time.
Deadly shots and clear words
Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, was fatally shot in the head when an ICE officer fired through the windshield of her car. Pretti, a 37-year-old intensive care nurse, was shot 10 times after being pushed to the ground by a group of immigration officers.
“If it looks like fascism. Sounds like fascism. Acts like fascism. Dress like fascism. Speak like fascism. Kill like fascism. And lie like fascism – then, boys and girls, it’s fucking fascism,” Morello continued. “It is here. It is now, it is in my city, it is in your city, and it must be resisted, it must be protested against, it must be repelled, exposed, thrown out, overthrown, and expelled. By you and by me.”
