On January 23, 2026, the novel adaptation “22 Bahnen” based on the bestseller of the same name by Caroline Wahl will be released for home cinema. The film is already available on DVD and Blu-Ray – less than five months after its theatrical release in September 2025. ROLLING STONE is exclusively giving away four packages with a signed poster by the author, the book edition of “22 Bahnen” and DVD/Blu-Ray. The film version contains bonus material, including interviews and B-roll.
From bestseller to screen
The film was directed by Mia Maariel Meyer (known for “Die Saar” and “Transatlantic”) and Elena Hell (“Sisi”) wrote the screenplay. The main roles are played by Luna Wedler, Zoë Baier, Jannis Niewöhner and Laura Tonke. The literary original was one of the best-selling titles for months in 2023.
What it’s about
The film tells the story of Tilda, who is torn between responsibility and her own dreams. She takes care of the household, her younger sister Ida and her alcoholic mother while she studies mathematics. Despite an offer to do a doctorate in Berlin, she stays in the small town out of a sense of duty. Feelings of guilt over a previous death and family crises place additional strain on them. Only through conflicts, illness and conversations does Ida realize that Tilda can – and should – go.
