Today is a sad day for Chimène. Her dog Amiri has died. She would like to say goodbye to him in peace and that is possible here in Weesp at the funeral home for pets. “Amiri was always very happy to see everyone,” says Chimène after discussing her dog’s funeral with an employee. “A very enthusiastic dog, he gave a lot of love.”

Funeral rooms

The animal crematorium has special funeral rooms where cremation is discussed and owners can say goodbye to their dog, cat, guinea pig or rabbit in their own way. As a reminder, you can also have a paw print made from ink or clay. Animal funeral entrepreneur Tineke Kreijne: “People of non-Western origin often want to say goodbye with music to guide the soul to the afterlife.”

Between 100 and 700 euros

The pet crematorium in Weesp is currently the only one in the municipality of Amsterdam. From 1980 until a few years ago there was an animal crematorium in Noord, but it moved to Haarlem. Next to the funeral rooms is the hall with the incinerator with six ovens of different sizes. Kreijne: “Cremating a large dog takes 3 hours, a guinea pig 45 minutes.”
