The European ice hockey derby between Switzerland and Norway ended as expected.
Switzerland was clearly better in the semi-final and will play in the final of the World Cup for the third time in a row. It happened to Norway like it did to Denmark a year ago, which then sensationally knocked out Canada in the quarterfinals. Switzerland then crushed Denmark 7–0.
The balance of power at the World Cup has been exceptionally clear for a long time. Several parties already announced some time ago that Switzerland, the Lions and Canada are in a class of their own. That’s what happened too.
For the Swiss hockey team, Sunday’s final is huge. In recent history, the country’s men’s ice hockey team has been hit on the canvas time and time again. The “perpetual loser” of the WC hockey has won silver medals in 2013, 2018, 2024 and 2025. The country still does not have a single WC gold.
A final defeat on Sunday in front of the home crowd would be an unparalleled disappointment for Switzerland. It is clear that the team will leave no stone unturned on Sunday.
