About the remarkable name for the club, Gerhardus Trecksel, informal chairman of the Capers, says: “Sometimes you get a nickname and you will not get rid of it anymore.”
He explains that the club is officially registered as a volleyball club for the elderly. But during the training sessions it was so cheerful that they said to each other ‘It looks like an episode of the Comedy Capers’, and that name has remained.
Comedy Capers was a well-watched TV program decades ago in which short stupid film clips from Helden such as Charlie Chaplin and Laurel and Hardy could be seen.
Difficult to play games
The club once consisted of fourteen members, men and women. But in the meantime that number has been halved and there are only male members. Gerhardus Trecksel says that the active border is now being approached. It is becoming increasingly difficult to play and rotate games is no longer there. “In the past, someone could sit for a while, but now there are already so few players in the field that nobody can be missed.”
