FLENSBURG (dpa-AFX) – Anyone who has to refuel suffers from the high fuel prices. But how many cars with combustion engines there are varies considerably depending on the region. A look at the statistics just published by the Federal Motor Transport Authority on vehicle numbers at the beginning of the year reveals where fuel prices are particularly hurting.

The fact that the price of diesel in particular has risen is particularly affecting many people in the Rotenburg (Wümme) registration district in Lower Saxony. Because there is the highest density of diesel cars there, with 278 vehicles per 1,000 inhabitants. Behind them are the registration districts of Cloppenburg (also Lower Saxony) and Haßberge (Bavaria) with 272 and 271 diesel vehicles per 1000 inhabitants. Hybrids with diesel engines were not included.

The fewest diesel engines, on the other hand, are in the cities of Berlin with 66 per 1,000 inhabitants, followed by Leipzig (83) and Halle (89). Stuttgart, Potsdam and Frankfurt (Oder) also remain below 100.

Wolfsburg is ahead – but only mathematically

Based purely on registration numbers, the most petrol engines per 1,000 inhabitants are in Wolfsburg with 502 per 1,000 inhabitants. The home of the VW (Volkswagen (VW) vz) Group is a statistical exception because there are a lot of cars registered there that are not necessarily on the road in the region. This distorts the statistics. If you leave the city out, the highest number of petrol cars are in the southwest Palatinate with 465 per 1000 inhabitants, followed by the Main-Taunus district in Hesse (455) and Kronach and Coburg in Bavaria with 450 and 449 per 1000 inhabitants.

The fewest petrol engines are again in Berlin with 212 per 1000 inhabitants, followed by Freiburg with 223 and Heidelberg with 228. Here too, hybrids with petrol engines are not included in the figures.

Electric vehicle drivers don’t suffer

Who a Electric car drives, can look at the gas station prices in a relaxed manner. However, even when it comes to pure electric vehicles, car manufacturers distort the statistics at their headquarters. Wolfsburg is once again at the forefront here, followed by Audi’s hometown of Ingolstadt. If you ignore the two, the highest electric car densities can be found in Wiesbaden and Euskirchen with 62 and 59 cars per 1000 inhabitants. The fewest pure electric vehicles compared to the population are in Görlitz with 7 per 1000 inhabitants, followed by Halle, Kyffhäuserkreis, Vorpommern-Greifswald, Altenburger Land, Salzlandkreis, Oberspreewald-Lausitz and Frankfurt (Oder) with around 9 per 1000 inhabitants each.

If you don’t have a private car, you only suffer indirectly from high fuel prices. The lowest vehicle densities for private cars overall can be found in Berlin, Heidelberg and Frankfurt am Main./ruc/DP/nas
