There will also be no historic Port Days in the city center of Coevorden in 2026. The plans were already canceled last year, because the municipality of Coevorden is currently tackling the market area and the city’s inland port. The Coevorden Port Association has decided to postpone the well-attended event again.

“We cannot rely on the port being ready next summer,” says chairman Jan Wolter Mager of the Coevorden Port Association. The market-port area in Coevorden is currently being redesigned.

On the side of the current historic harbor, a large tank will be filled with water where visitors to the fortified city can paddle. But it is still uncertain for the association whether there will be enough space for the event in the future.

There is less room for moorings in the municipality’s plans. “We had already taken into account that the Port Days would not take place next year, but it is still a shame,” says Wolter Mager.

In addition to the question of whether the port area offers space for the Port Days in the summer, the association also faces other challenges. “Getting the permit takes a lot more time these days.

In the past, an A4 sheet of paper would have been enough, but now there is much more to it,” Wolter Mager explains. The decision to take the plunge was therefore an accumulation of challenges.

Despite the disappointment that the upcoming edition will not take place, the chairman remains hopeful for the future. “We just keep trying and will look again this year at what the possibilities are for 2027. We will first wait to see how the plans for the port area develop, then we will look further.”
