Code orange in the northwest of the Netherlands due to very strong gusts of wind

The KNMI has for Wednesday morning and part of the afternoon code orange issued for the northwest of the Netherlands due to very strong gusts of wind. The weather warning is issued if there is “a high probability of hazardous or extreme weather with a major impact and a risk of damage, injury or major nuisance”. The KNMI warns specifically for damage and danger as a result of falling trees and flying objects.

Code orange applies to the provinces of North and South Holland, Flevoland, the IJsselmeer, the Wadden, Groningen, Friesland, Drenthe and Overijssel. Very strong wind gusts of 100 to 120 km/h can occur and even heavier on the coast and in the IJsselmeer area. Code yellow applies to the rest of the Netherlands.

In the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, Schiphol indicated that no or hardly any flights are possible between 09:00 and 15:00. The airport recommends travelers to check the current information of the airline before coming to the airport or to do so via Schiphol’s information channels. It is not yet known how many flights will be affected.
