FC Bayern: Kompany talks about Kane’s comeback

FC Bayern is facing the quarter-final duel in the Champions League against Real Madrid. For a long time there were question marks about Harry Kane’s use, now Vincent Kompany is talking about it.

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany has given hope that top striker Harry Kane will play before the Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid. At the press conference before the game, the 39-year-old Belgian said: “It was important for us that he trained a lot while he wasn’t playing. That’s why I don’t think there’s a loss of rhythm. We’ll wait until tomorrow, when we have the final information, we’ll make the decision. He’s there now and that’s positive for us. We have a good squad to start this knockout phase against Real Madrid.”
Kane returned to Munich from the international break with ankle pain. The 32-year-old missed the win against Freiburg (3-2), probably to rest himself for the game against Real Madrid.
There was first relief in the Munich camp on Monday morning when the Englishman was able to take part in the final training session at 12 p.m. on Säbener Straße.
The fans had even more hope when the team departed when sports director Max Eberl appeared in front of the media representatives and said about Kane: “He’s done everything, now he’s there and has taken part in the final training. Whether he puts him on or not is then Vinnie’s (Vincent Kompany’s) decision. But at least he’s there and there’s a good feeling,” said Eberl before FC Bayern’s departure to Spain.
Joshua Kimmich, who also spoke at the press conference, also believes that a comeback from Kane is important for the Munich team: “How many boxes has he made this season? 40? Or 50? Accordingly, it is obvious how important he is,” said Kimmich.
“Nevertheless, regardless of the goals, he is also very important for our game because he is not just a pure enforcer, but Harry is an absolute leader and team player,” continued Kimmich. “For him it’s always about having maximum success with the team. That’s generally a special mindset for an offensive player. So it’s important for us that he’s on the pitch and brings in his leadership qualities.”
