On Sunday evening, the Berliners officially announced the end of coach Christian Fiél. Less than 24 hours later, the successor has already been determined.
Just one day after the separation from head coach Cristian Fiél, Hertha BSC presents a new coach. Ex-Hannover coach Stefan Leitl takes over the troublesome second division club. The capital club announced this on Monday. As an assistant coach, Leitl brings former Hertha captain Andre Mijatović to Berlin.
The 47 -year -old Münchner had to go in Hanover shortly before the turn of the year. At that time, 96 was seventh with two points behind in second place.
The Hertha launched with promotion high-levels after a miserable start to the second half of the season and finally four bankruptcies in a row only five points ahead of relegation rank 16. At the weekend, there was a 1-2 defeat in Düsseldorf. Afterwards, those responsible took the consequence and released Fiél. Now Leitl should first protect the club from total crash.
Hertha’s sports director Benjamin Weber was pleased with the commitment of the new trainer in the club announcement. “We are glad that with Stefan Leitl we were able to win a very experienced trainer for ourselves who knows the league very well and has proven at his previous stations that he can shape and develop teams and players,” he emphasized. One is convinced that it is quickly back on track under Leitl and Mijatović.
Leitl said the Berliners are “a large club with enormous potential and a passionate fan base.” His new task would appeal to him very much. “I look forward to working with the players, the team around the club and the fans who make this club unique,” he said.
According to “Bild”, Hertha has the new coach and his assistant cost an impressive sum. The club must transfer 75,000 euros directly to Hannover 96, where Leitl and Mijatović were released in December, but were still under contract until the end.
If Hertha holds the class, the Lower Saxony get a look after. A further 50,000 euros will then flow from Berlin to the account of 96. According to the report, Hanover also saves the promotion bonus of Leitl. The coach had negotiated a bonus of 200,000 euros before the start of the season in the event that the return to the Bundesliga succeeded. The “picture” is considered secure that Hertha Leitl now has to pay for a 96 promotion.
Spicy: On the last matchday of the season, both teams meet in the Olympic Stadium. Hanover is currently only eighth, but is only five points behind third place and has not yet lost a game in 2025. The direct encounter of the two clubs could therefore become a fate game, which would be about the ascent or descent as well as a lot of money.
