What does a coach do on the sidelines? Olaf Janßen and Magenta TV give fans a special insight into an experiment in the 3rd league.
Premiere in German professional football: At the third division game between Viktoria Köln and VfL Osnabrück, fans were able to watch the coaching of Cologne coach Olaf Janßen on the screen. For the experiment, the 58-year-old had himself wired and equipped with a microphone. “I’m happy. I was able to prepare for it a little bit,” said Janßen before the game on Magenta TV.
Viewers on the pay channel were able to hear his instructions, sayings and emotions with a time delay during the live broadcast. “Put that thing in,” said Janßen before the hand penalty in the direction of goal scorer Lex Tyger Lobinger, who made it 1-0 in the 24th minute. “Yeah,” the coach then cheered into his microphone, “come on, men. Let’s go.” His reaction was similar after the decisive 2-0 with an own goal from Osnabrück’s Dave Gnaase (54th) against the bottom of the table.
During the half-time break, a compilation of further quick analyzes and cheers for Janßen was shown. A total of four recordings were recorded at different times during the game. “For the 90 plus four minutes I was completely with my team, completely with my game,” said Janßen afterwards.
Magenta TV recently took a similar approach to ice hockey. At that time, pictures and speeches from the dressing rooms of the German men’s and women’s national teams were shown.
