Self-doubt with Werder without a win
Bundesliga coach criticizes himself sharply

Werder Bremen has been waiting for a win in the Bundesliga for five games. The defeat in the northern derby is particularly gnawing at coach Horst Steffen.
Coach Horst Steffen was self-critical about the past few weeks at Werder Bremen. The 56-year-old is still particularly concerned about the defeat in the northern derby at Hamburger SV (2:3) at the beginning of December. “It still hurts me because I know exactly how important this game is for our fans,” explained Steffen in an interview with the news portal “buten und binnen”.
The coach, who was hired by second division team SV Elversberg in the summer, takes full responsibility for the sporting misery. “That bothers me, it annoys me. So nobody needs to criticize me. I’m very critical of myself and try to do the best for this club,” explained Steffen.
The growing dissatisfaction around the tenth-place team in the Bundesliga has not gone unnoticed by the coach. “It’s very clear that I notice that. It’s very clear that I also see it as an incentive and say: Hey, it’s getting better. We’ll all take the boys there,” emphasized Steffen.
Most recently, Bremen missed a break in the goalless draw against FC Augsburg shortly before Christmas. The Bundesliga club’s next chance comes on January 10th, when Werder hosts TSG Hoffenheim after the winter break (from 3:30 p.m. in the t-online live ticker).
