Clumsy criminals: how some betray themselves

Those criminals aren’t really smart. It is a prejudice, but with criminals it turns out to contain a grain of truth more often than you think. For example, that serious criminal from Belgium who walked down the street in Geldrop with a large inflatable palm tree. He was arrested and sentenced to 18 years. The Belgian is no incident, it turns out.

Stolen car rides
A Belgian managed to stay under the radar for four weeks. after he had committed a home robbery in Bladel. He also took the victim’s car home with him. The Belgian had only ‘forgotten’ to remove the license plate. When he drove around in the stolen car, he passed an automatic license plate recognition system. The man was arrested shortly afterwards.

Pee in public
In 2005 and 2006, a car and various buildings in Uden, Volkel, Zeeland and Erp were broken into. In all cases, the perpetrator managed to escape, but left DNA behind. So his identity was known, but he was not found for ten years. Until one evening he was peeing on the street in Amsterdam and was caught. The officers wanted to see his ID and discovered that the man had been wanted for years.

Append on the bike
It is still possible to run off by bicycle after a home burglary. The question is whether it is useful to hide the loot in your jacket. To then start calling on the bike with the phone in hand, is asking for trouble. The ‘smart guy’ from Oss also experienced this. On his bike he ran into the police. He dropped his cell phone in shock. The officers helped him and saw a baton with a string hanging around his neck. They searched him and then also found two bank cards and a driver’s license, which he had stolen just before.

Broken taillight
If you’ve got a firearm and thousands of dollars of cash in your car, you better make sure your car is okay. Two men in Eindhoven ran into the lamp because the rear light of their car did not work. Officers saw that after which they checked the license plate number in the police systems. Then it turned out that there had been more problems with the car. During the arrest, the police found the firearm and thousands of euros in cash in the glove compartment.

Collision with lamppost
A man wanted in Belgium ran into the lamp in Baarle-Nassau. Literally because he drove into a lamppost. The man wanted to run away after the collision, but officers stopped him. In a hidden space in the car they found a firearm, a blackjack and drugs. It later turned out that the man had not returned to Belgium after a probationary leave. He was then able to sit out the rest of his sentence.
