For Atletico Madrid, the club World Cup has ended after the preliminary round. In the end, the victory against Botafogo was not enough because Paris Saint-Germain did not burn anything in the last group game against Seattle. PSG and Botafogo moved into the KO round.
Atletico won in the Rose Bowl from Pasadena with a late goal by Antoine Griezmann in the 87th minute with 1-0 against Botafogo Fr from Rio de Janeiro. However, victory in the narrow group B was not enough because Paris Saint-Germain made everything clear in parallel with a 2-0 obligation against the Seattle Sunders from the USA.
Champions League winner PSG was the first to complete the group of four. Botafogo, winner of the South American Copa Libertadores, is also second in the round of the last 16th Atletico, as third – although all three teams have six points in their account. In the end, the three-man comparison decided that Atleti had needed two more goals to push past Botafogo. The 0: 4 flap for the start of PSG was fatal to the “Rojiblancos”.
Botafogo again defended strongly, the Brazilians conceded only two goals during the group phase. The Rio team also had chances against Madrid. Atleti goalkeeper Jan Oblak prevented the possible deficit. Atletico’s final offensive was much late.
PSG confidently against Seattle – Kwarazchelia and Hakimi
Paris had to deal with an opponent that was still much more defensive, but Seattle could not keep the zero too long. Chwitscha Kwarazchelia (35th) met all doubts in the first half, after the break, Achraf Hakimi (66.).
