Club stunts past Porto to six out of six

Penalty kick Jutglà

Carl Hoefkens started in the Dragon Stadium with the same eleven who had put Leverkusen aside last week. So without Boyata and Yaremchuk. But with a solid team that had to be able to curb the frivolous Portuguese game. AND that worked out well. Blauw-Zwart kept the lines together well and was able to threaten most often from a solid organization in the first half. After fifteen minutes, Jutglà was knocked down in the Portuguese sixteen. The Catalan was eager to take the penalty himself and kicked it smartly and hard into the bottom right corner: 0-1. Club couldn’t have started the game better.

Porto appeared playful, but not at all threatening in the zone of truth. The ball went around smoothly for the home team, but it was Club that had even better chances before half-time, including through Hans Vanaken. But it remained 0-1.

Porto made cold in 5 minutes

Blazing rain led to the second half in which Sergio Conceiçao brought in two more attacking players. But it was Club Brugge that completely shut down the Dragon Stadium. Except for the visiting fans, of course. At first Jutglà kept the ball well in the moon and passed through to Kamal Sowah, between three defenders. He played around his man and put the 0-2 neatly in the basket.

But that wasn’t all. Barely five minutes later, left back Meijer delivered a wonderful cross. Past everything and everyone to the far post, where Skov Olsen took the home goalkeeper hard: 0-3. A stunt score on the board after 52 minutes. FC Porto no longer knew what wood to make arrows from.

The Club fans who had traveled along continued to sing. They had to hold their breath once, when Sylla intervened on the broken Martinez in the sixteen. But there was no penalty. Hoefkens exchanged Sylla – against his will – for Boyata and a little later also brought Yaremchuk into the team. The storm from Porto, meanwhile, did not materialize. It turned square with the home side. A header from Yaremchuk could have been the 0-4.

Club goes as leader to double confrontation with Atletico

It was only in the 80th minute that Mignolet had to really intervene on a header for the first time. But Big Si watched his line. Moments later, Wendell fired a missile. But the home team was not allowed to grumble that it was not 0-4. Onyedika was unable to complete a wonderful action by Club. Ball hit the post, so it remained 0-3. Anyway, because through Antonio Nousa Club completed the punishment: 0-4! What a result!

In the other game, Bayer Leverkusen beat Atletico Madrid 2-0. Club is therefore alone in the lead with 6 out of 6. Atletico and Leverkusen have three points, Porto is without points. Club will therefore receive Atletico Madrid on the next match day as leader.
