Club gets new chance at group win in Champions League

Club tumbled slightly from its pink Champions League cloud last week. After a nice 10/12 without any goals, Porto won 0-4 in the Jan Breydel Stadium. Not a big deal, because blue-black was already certain of a place in the eighth finals, but not the scenario that coach Carl Hoefkens had in mind.

In the BayArena, the Belgian champion can show that the heavy defeat was no more than an ‘accident of the course’. In addition, the West Flemish are still playing for group wins (and possibly a more favorable draw). If Club (10 points) captures the three points, it secures its first place. In the event of a draw or loss, it is to watch what Porto (9 points), also qualified for the knockout phase, do at home against Atlético Madrid. Atlético (5 pts) and Leverkusen (4 pts) still have a chance of third place and the associated safety net of the Europa League.
