A fire raged for a short time last night in Café De Zatsel in Meppel. According to bystanders, a sound amplifier caught fire out of nowhere. The building on the Groenmarkt was then evacuated.
The nightlife crowd was shocked around 1.30 am from the plume of smoke that traveled through the café from the sound system. The staff led their guests outside and prevented the fire from expanding. Warring the fire brigade was prevented.
After extinguishing the fire, the café is ventilated. It is unclear how much damage the building itself has suffered. As far as we know, nobody was injured, although two café guests were in the ambulance. Eventually they did not have to go to the hospital.
Café De Zatsel reports on Facebook that the doors can probably open again tomorrow morning.
