Cloaked in mystery: more than a week after the discovery, IJmuiden still appears to be technically researched

More than a week after the discovery of the lifeless body of a woman in a house in the IJsselstraat in IJmuiden, forensic investigations are still being carried out. White-suit detectives walk in and out. What happened last week is still a mystery, the occupant of the house – a 34-year-old man – is still in custody.

Even a week after the body was found, the police and the judiciary can say little about what happened. But you can deduce that it was not a house-garden-kitchen quarrel from the fact that even a week after the discovery of the woman’s body, technical detectives are still busy with the investigation.

Local residents are groping in the dark, most say they have not noticed the commotion and do not know the neighbor in question. But also the neighbors who were aware that something was going on at the house, do not know exactly what happened. The arrested resident of the house seems to have had little contact with the neighbors. Some neighbors think they know that the man works in the inland shipping industry and would not be home much.

Crazy fabrics and weapons

“I heard from my mother that undercover officers were walking down the street,” says a young man who lives opposite the property under investigation. He has also heard that an arrest team has taken the man and that weapons and ‘crazy substances’ were found in the house. It remains unclear which substances are involved.

The suspicion that hazardous substances were present in the building is supported by the fact that a special defense investigation team was also deployed. It involved a team of experts in the field of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear substances. According to the judiciary, this is a preventive protection measure.

“I just sit quietly in my garden, it’s just quiet in my house. If the police let me out, I’m fine”

An English-speaking neighbor isn’t too concerned either, although he admits that the neighborhood talks about it all the time. “Why does something like this have to happen in our street”, he sighs and after some hesitation says he heard that someone was murdered in that house.

The suspect, the 34-year-old resident of the house, was brought before the public prosecutor last Friday. He will remain in jail for at least two weeks.

The investigation is being conducted by the Amsterdam criminal investigation department. Justice does not want to explain why the metropolitan police in IJmuiden is investigating.
