The promotion rooms of the 1st FC Magdeburg in the 2nd Bundesliga continue to take shape thanks to an aggressive, then clarified appearance against 1. FC Kaiserslautern. The game man: double packer Baris Atik.
On Sunday, the FCM won the “six-point game” against the table neighbor 2-0 (2: 0). With his two goals (29th minute, 43rd), left wing Atik cheers the home side. In the promotion race, Magdeburg bumps into the FCK from the relegation place. Both have 46 points, but the FCM the better goal difference.

Magdeburg presses, Lautern without order
The hosts came into play well. The first chance almost led to success: Alexander Nollenberger made a cross, offensive man Martijn Kaars narrowly missed the ball (1st). As a result, Lautern tried to sort better. But Magdeburg continued to set the tone, played variable and developed more penalty area scenes.
FCK goalkeeper Simon Simoni had to parry a low shot from Livan Burcu (24th), shortly afterwards Alexander Ahl Holmström headed the ball free-standing over the goal (26th). The Magdeburg lead goal was okay: Atik was served by Burcu, let Kaiserslautern’s defender Jan Elvedi stand and scored.

Double packer atik for Kaiserslautern not to be grasped
The Magdeburg left wing won 73 percent of his duels in half one, the FCK defensive whirled up properly. ATIK, between 2017 and 2018, in the service of Kaiserslautern, moved with the ball, had a good eye for his teammates – and became a man of the first half.
Because Atik’s second shot was also successful. After a hook on the penalty area, he brought the ball half as a cross, half as a shot with a lot of effet towards the goal – and the ball crashed into the long inner post. Afterwards, the Var checked whether goalkeeper Simoni was irritated by the FCM attacker Ahl Holmström in the offside. Referee Michael Bacher gave the goal – it was the right decision.

FCM goalkeeper Reimann plays briefly with the fire
The second round continued with unchanged balance of power. The FCM came out of the cabin again with steam. Atik sought Burcu in the penalty area, which was decisively disturbed by Elvedi at the end (47th). Furthermore, Magdeburg was stronger in the duels and won almost 60 percent of duels – although compelling goal finishes became less common.
In Kaiserslautern, however, too little went together. In the third of the attack, the guests often made false decisions, bid. So it was significant that FCM goalkeeper Dominik Reimann gave the FCK the best chance. Reimann lost the ball far in front of his box against Kenny Redondo, who jumped to Ragnar Ache – Aches conclusion went just by (54th). Reimann still saw yellow because he had fouled Redondo (55th).

Not too much happened in the final phase, but there were a few gruff duels. Redondo saw yellow after getting in against Atik (75th). He had previously been caught with the sole on his thigh after a duel from Elvedi – but Elvedi got away without a card (65.).
In the 79th minute of the game, Atik had the end of the game, he was replaced by Bryan Teixeira. This still had two big opportunities (85th, 90th+6). Both times, he ran more or less alone on the goal when a counterattack, but on both dribbles he missed the time for the end and let himself be pushed off.
“We didn’t play what we could play – that annoyed me. We simply did not perform well today, but that is also entitled to the boys. Magdeburg did not show an outstanding game, but it was enough because we got too few chances. We deserved”said FCK coach Markus Beginner in the Sportschau interview.
Magdeburg in Ulm, Kaiserslautern against Nuremberg
Magdeburg will play against Ulm on Saturday (1 p.m.). Kaiserslautern has a guest 1st FC Nürnberg on Saturday evening (8.30 p.m.).
