Both score for Newcastle - Malick Thiaw (l.) and Nick Woltemade

As of: November 29, 2025 8:25 p.m

Newcastle’s Nick Woltemade has ended his brief goal drought in the Premier League. At Everton FC he scored cleverly – and his teammate Malick Thiaw even scored twice.

The German national players Malick Thiaw and Nick Woltemade (45th) played a major role in Newcastle United’s brilliant 4-1 (3-0) away win at Everton FC. On matchday 13 of the English Premier League, defender Thiaw even scored twice (1st, 58th minute), while Woltemade scored his fifth goal of the season (45th). The 19-year-old Lewis Miley (25th) also met for Newcastle. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored Everton’s consolation goal (69th).

Thiaw hasn’t exactly stood out as a goalscorer in his professional career so far. At AC Milan, the 24-year-old Düsseldorf native scored just one goal in 84 competitive games. He has been under contract at Newcastle since the summer and was goalless there after 16 competitive games. In the game at Everton FC he changed this after just a few seconds.

Thiaw headed twice

After a corner, Thiaw headed in at the near post to take the early lead. Just under an hour later he eluded his opponents at the second post and, after a cross from the half-court, headed in to make it 4-0 – it was the preliminary decision.

Thiaw confirmed his strong form. He quickly fought for a regular place at Newcastle and convinced national coach Julian Nagelsmann to invite him back to the national team. In November he substituted Thiaw against Luxembourg (2-0) and Slovakia (6-0), which were his number four and five international matches.

Woltemade leapfrogs Pickford

For Woltemade, however, scoring goals is not a nice change, but rather his main task. In the Premier League, the center forward recently had a small lull of four games without scoring. In Everton, shortly before half-time, he took the opportunity to shoot eleven meters in front of goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. With a nice chip he scored to make it 3-0 at halftime.

The interim result was very flattering because Everton had controlled large parts of the first half and created a lot of pressure. However, the guests scored the goals, including Miley, who benefited from a mistake by Pickford with his shot from 16 meters.

Thiaw was involved in the goal

Everton continued to play eagerly in the second half and had great chances. Substitute Argentine Carlos Alcaraz only hit the crossbar (53′) and Thierno Barry’s goal was canceled after VAR was used due to handball (64′).

The goal from Dewsbury-Hall was the only success the “Toffees” had. The fact that Thiaw gave him too much space in the penalty area was bearable given the previous double pack.
