SC Verl shot TSV Havelse out of the 3rd league. The East Westphalians themselves still have little chance of advancement.
In front of 2,306 fans in their home stadium, SC Verl defeated TSV Havelse 4-0 (3-0) on Saturday. In a brilliant final phase of the first half, SCV coach Tobias Strobl’s team set the course for victory.
After the home win on matchday 36, Verl is in fifth place in the table and with two games remaining has at least a mathematical chance of reaching the promotion relegation place.
The losers had recently suffered a defeat in Osnabrück and with it a bitter setback in the promotion race.
Against Havelse, Verl had the game under control from the start, but was unable to get any shots in the early stages.
But as the game went on, the SCV was gradually able to develop a goal threat: Berkan Taz, for example, failed in the 31st minute.
But it took until the 44th minute for the Verlers to celebrate for the first time: Berkan Taz served Oualid Mhamdi, who was completely free in the penalty area, with a corner. The full-back pushed the ball into the right corner of the goal in a controlled manner from a few meters.
The knot was broken: just two minutes after the opening goal, Taz picked up a header assist from Mhamdi and fed Marco Wörner with a cross pass, who hit the TSV goal from around seven meters.
The guests practically collapsed in this phase: Jonas Arweiler increased it to 3-0 (45th + 4) before half-time – Wörner had controlled the ball in the penalty area, kept track of things and passed it across to Arweiler.
Mhamdi scores second goal
And at the beginning of the second half, the Verlers added their fourth goal: Following a short corner, the ball came to Mhamdi, who shot from half-right from a good 20 meters – the ball hit the visitors’ goal (48th).
Verl continued to have the game completely under control, but slowed down at times. However, the hosts remained dangerous: SCV players Almin Mešanović (61st) and Alem Japaur (77th) each missed their fifth goal.
Havelse had little to counter the East Westphalians and remained harmless in many cases: in the 80th minute, Verl goalkeeper Schulze parried a shot from substitute TSV player Robin Müller.
But there was no further goal and Verl was able to celebrate a 4-0 home win when the final whistle blew.
Verl will next be a guest at RWE
On the next match day, SC Verl has to play against promotion hopefuls Rot-Weiss Essen. Kick-off is on Saturday, May 9th at 2 p.m. in the stadium on Hafenstrasse in Essen.
