Eintracht Frankfurt showed a clear performance against 1. FC Nürnberg for a long time, but had to tremble at times. Thanks to the home win, Europe is now within reach.
Eintracht Frankfurt clinched a 4-1 (2-1) win against 1. FC Nürnberg on Monday evening. Nicole Anyomi (10th, 39th), Laura Freigang (89th) and Hayley Raso (90th + 4) were responsible for the home success. Meret Günster (25th) scored to equalize for the visitors, who were threatened with relegation.
His team will still have to get one or two wins, Eintracht Frankfurt coach Niko Arnautis had predicted after the impressive success against Wolfsburg and before the home game against 1. FC Nürnberg on Monday evening.
With three games still to play, that was quite generous. After the home win against Nuremberg, the coach will now slowly have to accept his ban on celebrating.
Anyomi becomes the match winner
Anyomi refined a fine pass from Rebecka Blomqvist to take the early lead (10th minute of the game). The fact that the Franconians also master the fine blade was demonstrated by their equalizer: preparer Emöke Papai and goal scorer Meret Günster prevailed in the narrowest space, the latter marking the not undeserved 1-1 (25th).
After an even phase, Eintracht now picked up the pace again: Blomqvist first hit the crossbar (32nd), Anyomi scored again after Nina Lührßen’s preparatory work (38th). A small downer: After the break, double packer Anyomi had to leave the field injured.
Nuremberg missed the big one Opportunity for compensation
Nuremberg certainly had its moments and even had momentum at times in the second half. The biggest chance for FCN went to Leia Varley, who had a free shot after a corner, but was somewhat taken by surprise (70′).
This shaky phase was finally ended by substitute Laura Freigang, who ended the evening with a lob to make it 3-1 (89′). Hayley Raso, who had just come into the game just before, even increased the result by one goal (90+4).
TSG Hoffenheim could get within four points with a win at FC Bayern on Wednesday. With two games still to play, the Frankfurt team has their sights firmly set on qualifying for the Champions League.
