With carnival, liters of beer and soft drinks go through again and that produces a mountain of empty cans and bottles. Deposit Netherlands will therefore place bulk machines and walk in carnival parades in Den Bosch, Eindhoven, Tilburg, Roosendaal and Helmond. More than a hundred packaging can be processed at the same time in such a deposit machine.
Party goers can hand in their empty deposit bottles and cans in seven mobile bulk machines in several places, including the Pensmarkt in Den Bosch. The deposit can then be paid out via a tikkie or donated. The proceeds go to the Veur Mekaor Foundation. This foundation helps disabled people to participate in Bossche events.
Deposit Netherlands will also be walking with a kind of broom wagon during several carnival parades in Den Bosch, Eindhoven, Tilburg and Roosendaal. In this last car of the procession, everyone can lose their empty cans and bottles.
Circular carnival
In this way, deposit wants to show the Netherlands ‘that handing in deposit is also the norm during events and can also be very easy.’ “And the return of bottles and cans contributes to a cleaner city and a circular carnival,” says Jeroen Hillen, director of Deposit Netherlands.
The temporary bulk machines are also a test to test the use of this type of machines during major events. The machines can then also be set up at events such as King’s Day.
In addition to the bulk machines and the broom wagons in the parade, take in several places during carnival. On the NS square in Den Bosch there will be a hand-in machine and bins will be placed throughout the city where people can put their packaging in.
There will also be bulk machines in Eindhoven (Stationsplein), Tilburg (Zomerpark), Helmond (Havenweg) and in Roosendaal (Nieuwe Markt). Spread over these cities will also be placed extra delivery points.
Extra cleaning trains
For the people who still have to take the train after the polonaise, the NS uses extra cleaners to keep the trains and stations clean. Normally trains are cleaned when they stand still at the station, but with carnival that also happens during the day while driving. And as icing on the cake, most Brabant stations are decorated in carnival colors and the stores are open until late.
With carnival, the Dutch Railways will also take access controls, extra security and other measures to steer the crowds in the right direction. Extra long trains are also used and in the NS app travelers can even introduce the carnival name of their destination.
