After two defeats in the Premier League, Manchester City achieved an important victory and prevailed in the derby against the city rival Manchester United 3-0 (1-0). FC Liverpool celebrated the fourth victory in the fourth Premier League game. At the promoted FC Burnley, the English champion won 1-0 (0-0) thanks to a late penalty. Mohamed Salah converted the penalty in the fifth minute of stoppage time. Previously, the Reds had not found a means against the compact defense of the hosts. Salah is now the sole fourth best scorer in Premier League history.
Liverpool started with a lot of pressure with ex-Leverkusen Florian Wirtz and former Frankfurt Hugo Ekitiké in the starting eleven. In the first half, the team of coach Arne Slot missed the last punch. A header from Ibrahima Konaté and a long -range shot from Dominik Szoboszlai remained the most dangerous actions before the break. Burnley had little to report in the attack, but defended it disciplined.
In the second round, Liverpool increased the pressure. Opportunities from Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo and Salah remained unused.
