Circles: Turkish Airlines wants to order up to 350 aircraft from Airbus

LONDON (dpa-AFX) – According to insiders, Turkish Airlines will probably order hundreds of aircraft from Airbus (Airbus SE (ex EADS)) for its planned capacity expansion. The order for around 350 aircraft of various types could be announced as early as Monday at the Dubai Air Show, as the Bloomberg news agency reported over the weekend, citing people familiar with the matter. The air show runs from Monday to Friday (November 17th). According to the insiders, talks between the airline and the aircraft manufacturer are still ongoing. The number of firm orders and options for possible future orders could still change.

Specifically, according to the report, Turkish Airlines is considering purchasing 75 long-haul A350-900 aircraft and 15 of the even larger A350 1000 variant. There are also discussions about purchasing 250 A321neo jets and some A350 freighters.

The airline, whose largest shareholder is the Turkish state, has been talking about plans for a larger order for some time. It wants to roughly double its fleet to around 800 aircraft over many years./mis
