Cigarette butt sets trailer with straw on fire

According to the police, by someone who threw away his butt. No one was injured, but the driver is still impressed by the fierce fire one day later.

The sea of ​​flames that driver Filip Calliau from Noordschote will probably never forget. He was driving near Lille yesterday when his trailer full of straw caught fire.

“I immediately stopped on the hard shoulder, took out my quick extinguisher to see what I could do. But I immediately saw that it was a sea of ​​flames. I threw my quick extinguisher there, disconnected my truck and drove on, so that it could not catch fire And it’s a good thing I did, because in less than two minutes the whole trailer was on fire.”

This indeed prevented Philip from getting worse. The photos say it all: the trailer was destroyed in no time. The police closed the highway, Filip could only watch as the fire raged.

“As I drove home I saw everything again: how I disconnected it, the traffic racing next to you.”

One day later, Filip recovers from his adventure, his tractor is ready for a new transport. In the meantime, they also know the cause: the police say that someone threw a cigarette butt out of the car.

“That’s very dangerous, especially in such dry weather. So never do that. I have nothing against people who smoke, but please don’t just throw your butt out on the street or on the roadside. Dangerous.”
