The meeting days are intended to give victims a voice in the Church’s policy. During the meeting it was announced that each recognized victim will receive additional support of 3,000 euros. According to the Dignity Foundation, this concerns a total of 1,591 victims.
The Dignity Foundation and the Catholic Church call on parliament and the government to work on a new and comprehensive legislative framework that will give all victims of sexual abuse access to the necessary recognition and support. Both the Flemish and the federal parliament have underlined this in previous recommendations.
Recognized victims are people who have entered into a settlement, a written agreement in which the Church acknowledges the complaint.
