The size of the illegal opioid trade must be quickly mapped, warns the Dutch Association for Anesthesiologists (NVA). While doctors are increasingly cautious about prescribing them, chronic pain patients buy heavy painkillers such as oxycodone and fentanyl, according to the NVA, more and more on the black market. This means they run great health risks. “They play Russian roulette.”
