Roma, 18 Nov. (askanews) – A Santa Claus in the midst of a mid-life crisis who plays in a heavy metal band, his wife who takes over the “family business” and tries to manage the delivery of gifts, while the Befana and Santa Lucia reclaim their role as the first dispensers of gifts to children, overshadowed from a certain point onwards by the cumbersome Santa Claus! Happens in comedy Christmas without Santa directed by Stefano Cipani, on Prime Video from November 28, starring Luisa Ranieri and Alessandro Gassmann, together with Caterina Murino and Valentina Romani, who play the wicked and adorable Befana and Santa Lucia.
“Can we say it? We’re really pissed off, and so finally after all these years.. I’ve always been trying, for 2025 years, trying to enjoy Christmas but I can’t do it.. This Santa Claus is finally falling into depression!” Murino joked. According to Romani, however: “St. Lucia doesn’t give discounts to anyone, I must say: you don’t have to disturb her. Then if you take her to an aperitif something magical can happen.”
This depressed Santa’s family looks like many other families
In the film, written by Michela Andreozzi, This depressed Santa’s family looks like many other familiesdealing with a daily life that is only a little more tiring to manage, as Gassmann says: “Really very happy, but it’s realistic, yes, as often happens in comedies, even fantasy ones like the one we present represent our society.” Ranieri said: “Also this idea of a masculine who does not project himself as an unattainable, strong, macho masculine, but is a fragile masculine.”

Christmas without Santasaved by women
And in the comedy where Christmas is saved only thanks to female solidarity, the Befana also takes up the role she deserves: “They made me a contract: we’ll all meet in Piazza Navona and I’ll be there on January 6th, obviously! Please remember: we need to celebrate the Befana” said Murino.
