Christmas tree sellers and Christmas markets were busy during the first ‘Christmas’ weekend

Anyone who already has their Christmas tree up could go to the many Christmas markets in Drenthe for even more Christmas feeling. There are markets this weekend in Emmen, Ruinen and Zeijen, among others.

Also in the monument village of Orvelte, the stands with Christmas pieces, animal furs and all kinds of delicacies are lined up in neat rows on Saturday and Sunday. A crowd of visitors shuffles along the stalls. “It’s busy beyond expectations. Very nice!” says Christmas market organizer Mannuela Huisman.

According to the organization, the popularity of the market in Orvelte has several causes. “Orvelte is just a very beautiful village, with those old farms and thatched roofs,” Huisman explains.

“We always have many different and beautifully decorated stalls here, we consciously select based on that. And the weather is also good.”
