When I saw Christina Lux live for the first time more than 20 years ago in the entrance area of the Cologne exhibition halls on the occasion of PopKomm, I was immediately enthusiastic: what a voice this woman had and what a feeling the guitarist had. Shortly thereafter I had her EP ‘She Is Me’ in the mail and I’ve been a fan of this musician and autonomous business leader ever since. Not every one of her ten following albums, including a live DVD, has impressed me in the same way, but I have always been impressed by the energy with which Christina Lux has been doing her job for so many years – the organizational and the creative ones. Her first German-language album ‘Leise Bilder’ was awarded the German Record Critics’ Prize in 2018, and on ‘Lichtblicke’ she can again be heard mainly in her mother tongue – which for my taste (which has changed on this point) is now more authentic and organic comes across. Christina wrote the songs for this album together with her live & studio companion, the multi-instrumentalist Oliver George, who, in addition to keyboards, basslines and drums, also recorded some extremely skilled electric guitar parts. The entire sound design is absolutely tasteful and round, the arrangements are always peppered with small surprises and the songs are touching. Christina Lux’ music is the opposite of Cool – and this is Soul! Great music!
