Christina Aguilera guest-starred on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast on April 5. There, the 42-year-old spoke about her “Stripped & Justified Tour” with Justin Timberlake in 2003. She recalled how differently the two artists were perceived by society and saw a double standard in it. There were many moments during the tour where she thought, “Why is this okay with him but not okay with me?”

Aguilera broke ranks with her songs and performances 20 years ago. She proudly addressed female sexuality in her art and was often the victim of slut shaming at the time. Back then, the media in particular often overstepped their boundaries, Aguilera said in the podcast. “I have to write songs that mean something to me and express what I stand for,” the “Fighter” singer continued. And that includes sexuality! I think there was a lot of shame and fear associated with the topic… So I just wanted to be who I am and create a safe space for everyone.”

Christina Aguilera is an award-winning pop artist. Their album STRIPPED (2002) was certified quintuple platinum in the US. BACK TO BASICS (2006) reached number 1 in the German charts. The New York native’s latest release is the album AGUILERA, which was released on May 31, 2022. Aguilera also works as an actress.
