Christian Streich has “many ideal opponents” for the Europa League

Coach Christian Streich from Bundesliga club SC Freiburg is looking forward to the draw for the group stage of the Europa League.

“Of course we’re happy because we’re there. That’s something special, we don’t get that often,” said Streich the day before the Breisgauer game against VfL Bochum.

He has “many” preferred opponents for the drawing, which takes place seven and a half hours before the game. “I have a thing for stadiums I’ve never been to,” said Streich.

No scheduling conflict between draw and game

“Azerbaijan would be far away and connected with flying. But I’ve never been there. I already know the stadium in Dortmund, there are other stadiums that I don’t know yet. Because I’m here all the time.”

At the same time, the coach also hopes that the draw will be completed quickly. “I don’t know how long it takes. Things like that sometimes take a lot. There’s always a lot going on. But the appointment fits into the daily schedule quite well,” said Streich. “I hope that the teams will be drawn quickly.”

The draw will not affect the concentration on the evening game, said Streich. “There’s enough time in between. And I can think about whether I’ll sit in front of the TV or go cycling.”
