Decision made: After five years together, TSV Hannover-Burgdorf and coach Christian Prokop will go their separate ways in the future.
TSV Hannover-Burgdorf and coach Christian Prokop will end their collaboration at the end of the 2025/26 season. The handball Bundesliga team announced this on Friday. The club and coach agreed on a realignment in the summer of 2026 in “respectful and constructive” discussions, according to the “Recken” website.
Sports director Sven-Sören Christophersen explained that “after long and intensive discussions” they had jointly decided not to continue the collaboration. After five years, this decision creates “clarity for Christian’s future and the perspective of our club.” Christophersen expressly thanked Prokop for his “high level of identification” and the work he has done.
Prokop, head coach of the “Recken” since 2021, led the team to three consecutive placements in the top third of the table for the first time. The former national coach (2017 to 2020) shaped an important chapter in the club’s history. Hanover-Burgdorf is currently in the Bundesliga but only in eleventh place.
Managing director Eike Korsen also emphasized the appreciative cooperation: They wanted to “bring the time together to a complete conclusion” and “create further positive experiences” over the rest of the season.
Prokop himself stated that his family “always felt very comfortable” in Hanover. He looks back with gratitude on “intensive and successful years”. At the same time, he’s looking forward: “I’m not done here yet. My focus is immediately moving forward and I want to achieve a lot of positive things together with my team,” he says.
