Three Chinese astronauts took off on a rocket to China’s Tiangong space station on Sunday. The intention is for one of the crew members to stay there for a year and that is a first for the country.
The Shenzhou-23 mission took off from Jiuquan Launch Base in the Gobi Desert. One of the crew members, Li Jiaying, will go down in history as the first astronaut from Hong Kong.
Li and her colleagues will conduct all kinds of experiments in space. By allowing one of the taikonauts, the term for Chinese space explorers, to stay for a year, we will see what such a long stay in space does to people.
