Hackers working to bring down the Chinese government have been looking for vulnerabilities of socially critical targets in the United States. About that said Microsoft.

The hacker group behind the actions is named Volt Typhoon. In addition to communication systems, their targets have included traffic, administrative and various information systems.

According to Microsoft, hackers have infiltrated seemingly normal data traffic, using which they have collected data from various systems. Vulnerabilities have been looked for especially in the network devices of small offices.

The situation in Taiwan is heating up

The hackers’ primary target has been the island of Guam in the Pacific Ocean, where important US Navy and Air Force bases are located.

Hitting Guam’s systems could give China an advantage in potential conflicts in the Pacific Ocean and Asia. In China, efforts have been made to find ways to incorporate democratic Taiwan into the People’s Republic. Taiwan’s strongest ally is the United States.

The United States, its allies, and Microsoft have warned that similar intelligence could increase worldwide.

According to the news agency AFP, China has not commented on the accusations.
