«Children’s City» inside the new Milan Polyclinic

Land lanes like tree-lined avenues, the entrance like a Skatepark and the hospital rooms like colorful bedrooms. This is the creative concept that will guide the layout of the spaces of the pediatric area of New Polyclinic of Milanwhich will be completed by 2024. The project was created by Novembre Studiowinner of the tender promoted and financed by De Marchi Foundationto create in the Milanese hospital «the most beautiful and welcoming pediatric department in the world».

A city for children inside a hospital

The project is called «The city of children» and at the base there is the idea of ​​transforming the spaces of the pediatric area into a child-friendly city. In fact, each new environment will recreate a familiar context to eliminate the feeling of distance and bring children closer to the places they live.

From the Skatepark to rooms like bedrooms

The entrance will feature a Skatepark equipped with a large interactive screen to entertain while you wait. The corridors transform into the avenues of the city, while the hospitalizations will recreate a domestic environment. There will be a playroom, with the possibility of watching TV series and with stations for individual and shared games. The Classroom, a space where children, during the period of hospitalization, can study and do homework and the Office, an area dedicated to parents equipped with workstations for smart working. Finally, the the fourth floor will be “inhabited” by the Therapeutic Garden which through the use of furnishings and games inspired by the animal world becomes the city zoo.

The humanization of the pediatric hospital

«In addition to excellent care and research – explained Marco Giachetti, president of the Milan Polyclinic – we want to ensure that all patients, especially children and their families, can live the hospital experience in the least traumatic way possible. With this project we aim to humanize the spaces of Pediatrics by recreating an environment as close as possible to the domestic onehelping children and their families to feel less distant from their home.

A new polyclinic that contains all types of pain

Milan will soon have the new large Polyclinic and, within it, the most beautiful Paediatrics in the world: I am very happy with this result which occurred thanks to the De Marchi Foundation and the benefactors and philanthropists who have always generously supported our hospital.” There Pediatrics of the New Polyclinic will therefore continue to be a point of reference at national level for assistance, treatment and research in the pediatric field and the initiative will be part of the UN HOSPITAL MICA MALE project aimed at contain pain and reduce stress in children hospitalizedalleviating the sense of isolation and facilitating the return to daily life at the end of treatment.
