The cup handover at the club World Cup was strange. A Chelsea player now tells the moment from his point of view.
Marc Cucurella experienced an unusual moment with the Chelsea FC after the victory at the club World Cup. In an interview with Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, today’s European champion told a special appearance of the then US President Donald Trump at the award ceremony.
“We were told as a rule, quasi: ‘He will come to give you the trophy, and you shouldn’t lift them up before he went,” said Cucurella. But the process was different than announced.

“And of course, we were all there and waited that he was going, but the guy just didn’t want to go. And we looked at him, and he said: ‘No, highly raise them, I stay here,’ said the Chelsea professional. He added: “Who should say something about it, do you know? I had my pants full.”
When Romero jokingly asked him if he was afraid to be removed at that moment, Cucurella replied: “Yes, or you are caught directly from the sniper.”
After handing over the trophy to Chelsea captain Reece James, Trump had not left the stage as usual. Instead, he stopped in the middle of the players. Chelsea won the final of the first-time club World Cup 3-0 against Paris Saint-Germain.
