The management of BlueCo, owners of Chelsea and Strasbourg, is much discussed. French fans organized a protest march in London, but in the meantime the holding company has also set its sights on River Plate…

March 24 – 6.58pm – MILAN

London-Strasbourg-Buenos Aires. It is not a new airline from a low-cost airline but a business-football connection that links three clubs between England, France and Argentina. But without offense to the French of Strasbourg, in the middle there are two clubs that have made the history of European and world football such as Chelsea and River Plate.

paradoxes

It is a story full of paradoxes: the first concerns Strasbourg, the French club from a footballing point of view is going through the best moment of the last forty years. But the fans are on a war footing because the owners treat Strasbourg like the branch of Chelsea. It all started in June 2023 when BlueCo – a holding company headed by the American businessman Tod Boehly – also became the owner of Strasbourg. It’s true that they invested from London by bringing players, structures and professional figures but then in January they saw their coach taken away from Stamford Bridge after the Blues had decided to close with Enzo Maresca. Bad episode, Liam Rosenior packed his bags but his impact in the Premier League was not the same as he had on Strasbourg. Then the cases of some players. As soon as they discover a valuable boy, zero time and this talent ends up at Chelsea, like the central defender Sarr; or it is sold to raise cash, as happened to Bakwa and Diarra, who moved to Nottingham Forest and Sunderland for around thirty million euros. French fans are tired and have organized a protest march on April 18th. They will go to London and contest ownership a few hours away from Chelsea-Manchester United. Some groups of Chelsea fans will also take part in the protest. So far there has been no sign from BlueCo of wanting to review the management methods of the two clubs. Indeed they have decided to relaunch: they would like to include River Plate in the football galaxy.

also the river plate

BlueCo is in fact one step away from closing a historic agreement with the Milionarios. Negotiations are at an advanced stage and on the horizon there would be a strategic partnership between the two clubs, designed to guarantee sporting and economic benefits for both. The basic idea is to create a sort of exchange of young talents in both directions, from London to Buenos Aires and from Buenos Aires to London. Meanwhile, River’s best prospects could have the opportunity to make the jump to Chelsea in a seamless manner, with the path clear to reach the Blues’ first team. This would happen through the option mechanism: English managers, in fact, would have the opportunity to be informed about offers arriving from other clubs and to be able to match those accepted. A sort of priority on the best talents on display. Furthermore, there would also be option number two, which is to pass through Strasbourg before arriving at Stamford Bridge. In short, a triangle with London as the capital and Chelsea destined to have the best talents from Strasbourg and River Plate, with the French and Argentine clubs destined for a subordinate role compared to the Blues. The dominoes have already started: Kendry Páez moved from Strasbourg to River during the last winter transfer window. As if to say that if there is someone who doesn’t perform at Strasbourg he can be useful at River and is transferred there, if he is not yet deemed capable of playing for Chelsea. The young Ecuadorian talent, just 18 years old, was on loan at Strasbourg but had found little space in Ligue 1. Chelsea, owner of the card, decided to interrupt his apprenticeship with the French club and send him to Argentina, with the aim of playing continuously under the guidance of Eduardo Coudet. The most prestigious club in Argentina, which has won 38 Argentine titles, 4 Libertadores (corresponding to our Champions League) and an Intercontinental Cup reduced to a branch of Chelsea. A project that will be impossible for Monumental fans to digest. Rather than a protest march to London, in Buenos Aires the Millionarios are ready to set up the barricades to defend the honor of their club. And then think what reaction an Argentinian might have who sees his team colonized by an English club… Maybe it’s better to avoid it.
