For a long time it seemed as if Betis Sevilla could hold Chelsea FC in chess. But then the Londoners turned up and secured the title.

Chelsea FC is the new title holder in the UEFA Conference League. The London club won 4: 1 against Betis Seville in the final of the competition. It seemed to be a different result for a long time. The Spaniards started significantly better, completely dominated the first half and took the lead in the ninth minute with a goal from Abde Ezzalzouli.

Betis was still the better team at the beginning of the second half, but then Chelsea suddenly turns up – especially in the form of Cole Palmer. The offensive player only served Enzo Fernández with a butter -soft flank to compensate (65th minute) and after a strong dribbling also provided the template to 2-1 by Nicolas Jackson (70th minute). As a result, Betis struggled again, but could no longer realize the equalization. On the contrary: In the 83rd minute, ex-BVB star Jadon Sancho already made the decision 3-1, the goal from Moisés Caicedo in the first minute of stoppage time then made the final score.

Due to the victory, FC Chelsea is the first team to win the title in all major European club competitions. Previously, the “Blues” were able to triumph in the Champions League (2012 and 2021), Europa League (2013 and 2019), in the no longer existent European Cup of the Cup winners (1971 and 1998) and in the UEFA supercup (1998 and 2021).

With Seville’s final defeat in Breslau, Poland, an impressive series of Spanish football ended: for the first time since the beginning of the 2001/02 season, a final with Spanish participation in the Champions League, Europa League of the Conference League did not go out with a win for a Spanish team.

Betis acted more determined before the break and immediately took his first chance. Isco, who had played at Real Madrid for almost a decade and won the premier class four times, stimulated the outsider’s game again and again. Ex-Dortmund Marc Bartra (14th) and Johnny Cardoso (21st) almost increased, the lead was fine.

Chelsea, who had secured the Champions League ticket for the coming season at the weekend in the league, initially did little. In the second round, the “blues” then vehemently demanded a penalty, but Betis goalkeeper Adrián had played the ball (55.).

The Londoners, who have been coached by Enzo Maresca since this season, increased the pressure from minute to minute – with success. Fernández was on the spot after a precise flank from Palmer. Less than five minutes later, Palmer triumphed again, Jackson only had to insert after the preparatory work of the English Vice European Champion. Sancho made the decision with a Schlenzer.

In the run -up to the final, there were clashes between supporters from both clubs in the city center. Poland Interior Minister Tomasz Siemoniak initially reported 28 arrests in the early Wednesday evening. According to the police, “several hundred” emergency services were used “to restore public order”.
