In the middle of a quiet piece of forest in Hollandscheveld, Vogelhotel is ‘in the nests’. Dozens of bird houses hang next to each other or above each other. It is not only the classic nest boxes, but “everything Henk saw a hole in, could be a birdhouse,” laughs Alice van Staaten. The bird hotel is in her garden in the woods.
After a holiday in the Netherlands, Van Staaten saw a similar bird hotel. She knew immediately: I want this too. No sooner said than done. Friend Henk van de Bunt and his wife Anneke helped Alice make this bird hotel. It is already the second, because the first tree in which the bird houses hung, fell over by a storm six months ago.
Van Staaten: “Despite the fact that there was a lot of damage to the house, I thought it was the worst falling over the tree.” “I thought: it must be rebuilt,” adds Henk van de Bunt.
The foot of the tree is back in place and on top of that the bird houses are placed. Anneke van de Bunt helped her husband with the reconstruction of the hotel. The structure was put together in their barn. “We transported it in a bus and packed everything in boxes.”
The tree is there again, with hotel in it. And it is most beautiful: it is also used too. The sparrows fly up and off. But also the tit, wagtails and swallows check in.
